Freezing hazards at Rocklea Cold Storage

As one of the fastest-growing, purpose-built, cold storage facilities in Queensland, Rocklea Cold Storage has more than 10-years’ experience in their industry. As a highly reputable organisation, their client base is diverse, and their service teams are constantly catering for a range of varying requirements.

Rocklea Cold Storage is a leading distributor and the company services everywhere across Queensland. From north Sunshine Coast metropolitan areas to Brisbane, and from west Toowoomba to the south Tweed Heads area. Utilising their partners fleet of refrigerated vehicles, they offer their clients a range of services including freezer storage, chiller storage, container unpacking and packing, and refrigerated transport.

As one could expect with a company that has high volumes of incoming and outgoing traffic at their loading dock, hazards were increasing due to the deteriorated state of their dock area. Rocklea Cold Storage was tired of having to repair their old dock doors. Due to age and accidental collisions with forklifts, the older styled doors were not sealing around the dock opening correctly. Not only was it expensive repairing the doors and delaying processes, but for a cold storage site, chilled air would escape from the area.

Materials Handling assisted the company in providing a solution to this loading dock problem to improve Rocklea Cold Storages operations and reduce unrequired expenses. The project insisted on removing the existing insulated dock doors and replace them with a more durable product that could provide the same benefits – enter our new and innovative MxV KnockOut Dock Doors.

Materials Handling P/L delivered five MxV KnockOut Dock Doors.

A long term solution for loading dock safety, KnockOut Dock Doors can withstand damage by flexing on impact. Not only do they save time and money where safety is concerned but they improve efficiency and productivity. With KnockOut Dock Doors, there are no guide rollers, bearings and shafts to snap off if struck or hit by a forklift. The door will simply fall out of the guide rails and the operator can easily place it back onto the guide track to continue working. With a Guide Brush design, the door also ensures a constant seal around its edges.

For Rocklea Cold Storage, the MxV range was an easy solution to combat this repeated issue on site. The existing doors were removed, and KnockOut Dock Doors were installed in their place. With long-term sealing configurations, this product provided better insulation and heat flow. The improvements have been extensive and have enhanced the company’s overall productivity and efficiency. Teaming up with DL Manufacturing and Hold Fast Industries, the project was completed very professionally and in the quoted time frame. Initially, Materials Handling quoted four (4) Large Doors but, a fifth smaller door was added when the benefits of this long-term solution were realised.

The advantages of KnockOut Dock Doors were quickly realised by Rocklea Cold Storage, who K’O’d their loading dock problems completely.
